Converting From Tableau Server to Tableau Cloud

Important Consideration: For the best experience migrating your content, we strongly recommend engaging your Account Manager for assistance with your conversion.

This project is for customers whose environment meets the following criteria to perform a self-service conversion from Tableau Server to Tableau Cloud, using the Content Migration tool:

  • No multiple Sites.
  • No more than 100 data sources and workbooks (combined).
  • Does not contains custom views, alerts, subscriptions, Flows, or content other than data sources and workbooks.
  • Does not require Tableau Bridge to refresh on-premises data.
For customers who do not meet the above criteria, self-service conversions are highly discouraged and we strongly recommend engaging your Account Manager for assistance with your conversion.

Before you choose to perform a self-service migration using the Content Migration Tool, you should be aware of the following considerations:

  • CMT has known limitations. For more information, see Migration Limitations.
  • CMT does not support workbooks or data sources before 2018.1. For more information, see FAQ and Troubleshooting.
  • For Tableau Cloud to Tableau Server Migrations, the source and destination servers should be running the same version of Tableau. 
  • If your Tableau Cloud site has been suspended, reach out to your Sales Account Manager for assistance to get the site reactivated.
  • Tableau Online.
  • Copy owners and permissions from a source site to a destination site using user mappings between environments if necessary
  • Select specific content for migration, along with reorganizing or transforming content in the destination during the migration
